Overview
Proyecto H is pleased to present the solo exhibition of the artist Thierry Guetta, better known as Mr. Brainwash, which will be available from June 29, 2023.
For over a decade, Mr. Brainwash has pushed the boundaries of contemporary art, with street art and pop art being his balancing act. The artist shook the art world with his innovative and bold style. He navigating the worlds of film, celebrity culture, music and sports, starring in the Banksy-directed, Oscar-nominated documentary Exit Through the Gift Shop.
In the Dream Big Dreams exhibition, the artist recontextualizes images from popular culture, such as Mikey and Minnie Mouse, and from art history, such as Keith Haring, and Banksy, incorporating them into ironic compositions on paper. Mr. Brainwash's colorful text and iconography reflect the artist's graffiti-inspired sensibility and undermine his original source.
In his words, “I work with passion and my passion is what drives me crazy and sometimes madness makes you do things you don't normally do”. Thus, Brainwash's imaginary is reflected in his pieces, which collect emblematic characters, figures and phrases.
From messages like “life is beautiful” written on a sign and held by Albert Einstein, to Charles Chaplin surrounded by Basquiat wreaths and Warhol Cambell's tins, the artist brings a spontaneous and ironic sense to contemporary art.
In this way, Dream Big Dreams opens the door to creativity and invites the public to explore art from madness, innovation and irony.
