Overview
Apertura is the great event that inaugurates the exhibition season of art galleries in Madrid.
With an exceptional program and schedule, it brings together in our city artists, professionals of the sector, collectors, public and private institutions, companies and national and international public.
Promoted by the association of galleries Arte Madrid, Apertura Madrid Gallery Weekend has been held since 2009. Every September, during a weekend, the galleries of Arte Madrid come together to offer a unique tour of exhibitions, open to all and free of charge, that take place throughout the city.
In recent editions Apertura has been extended throughout the month of September to offer a complete program of activities accessible to the public free of charge, such as joint openings in all the galleries, a program of events and guided tours of the galleries, visits to some of the most unique art centers and museums in the city, as well as tours of the public space to discover and appreciate works of art located in the streets, squares and buildings of Madrid.
Apertura also organizes a private program aimed at developing the contemporary art sector and encouraging collaboration between cultural agents and professionals. In addition to the invitations extended by the galleries themselves and by the association, an international group of directors of art centers or institutions, curators and advisors attend.
Arte Madrid and Apertura are financed by the contribution of the associated galleries and through the help, collaboration and sponsorship of both private companies and public administrations.
